African Heritage Restaurant

The Danish owned 'African Heritage' restaurant in The Gambia is also part of a larger complex that houses a guesthouse and gallery. The 'African Heritage' is situated in a quiet residential area of Cape Point and is a cosy place to stay if you are visiting the area. The guesthouse is also very near to the main hotel area and of course those wonderful white sandy beaches with clear blue waters and blue skies! All the rooms at the guesthouse are spacious and the decor is tasteful and relaxing to enhance your stay. Some of the room are en-suite but other less expensive rooms have a separate bathroom. If you choose to stay at the 'African Heritage' guesthouse you can arrange with the owners to be picked up from the airport on your arrival, or if you have rented a car for the duration of your stay in The Gambia then the 'African Heritage' guesthouse offer large roofed parking space for all its patrons.

The Restaurant

Open Monday to Saturday between 9.00 - 22.00. 
 Closed Sunday.

The 'African Heritage' restaurant is situated in a spacious and airy open plan room that has no walls to give your dining experience a more 'al-fresco' feel to it! The restaurant is tastefully decorated with wooden furniture and an array of attractive green pot plants. You can expect to find a good range of dishes should you choose to eat here, including some locally sourced seafood. There is a mix of traditional Gambian dishes and also, as you would expect, Danish dishes on offer. You can choose chicken or vegetarian curries, shrimps Gambia, garlic shrimps, Danish beef, Danish meatballs, Danish plate (open sandwiches on brown bread), omelettes or fish or chicken with chips. Some dishes are only served at lunchtime, so it is worth checking out availability with the proprietors, although many things can be ordered in advance as long as staff are given enough notice. The restaurant also serves a range of wines and beers or if you prefer a non-alcoholic drink, you can choose from various juices as well as coffee or teas.

The Guesthouse

The 'African Heritage' is also, as mentioned earlier, a guesthouse and rooms can be rented out at reasonable prices that are calculated on a daily basis. Prices for your room also include continental breakfast at the 'African Heritage' restaurant, or for an extra 50 Dalasi you can get a full breakfast. There are a variety of different rooms to choose from to suit every type of traveller, most have double beds only and many are en-suite. One apartment type room is situated in a separate annexe to the main guesthouse and features a living room, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen. If you want to have a fridge in your room, you will have to pay an extra 25 Dalasi per day. For those guests who do not wish to eat at the restaurant there is a little self-catering kitchen that is located on the first floor of the guesthouse and it is possible to make your own food or meals here. The guesthouse is prepared and has a back-up generator should there be a power failure in the area. A swimming pool is located on site, so residents are able to cool off in the midday sun if they so wish. The swimming pool is situated in a beautiful garden where you may be lucky enough to see a variety of the Gambia's famous local, colourful birds.

The Gallery and Souvenir Shop

The guesthouse is also able to cater for all your shopping needs, no need to venture too far into town. You can easily pick up some genuine and locally sourced crafts to take home for your friends and family as souvenirs. If you just want to treat yourself and buy a reminder of your holiday in the Gambia, the 'African Heritage Art Gallery and Souvenir Shop' is open Monday to Saturday between 9.00 - 22.00
(closed on Sundays). The souvenir shop provides a unique collection of local African works of art and crafts. The gifts on offer are all of the highest quality and you will find them very competitively priced too. There are a lot of items to choose from including wooden masks and other crafts, batiks and tie-dye clothes, paintings of local scenery, table cloths, woven bags and items of jewellery to name just some of the items you will find in the shop.
