'The Kingfisher Restaurant' can be found in The Kairaba Hotel, which is situated on Serrekunda in the Gambia, near to Cape Point and truly represents luxury when it comes to accommodation. It boasts five stars and an idyllic coastal location on the golden, sandy beach of Kololi. Its distinct atmosphere of comfort and relaxation means that it is the perfect place to unwind, rest and put your everyday stresses and strains behind you. In terms of the hotel's location, you really couldn't ask for more. In the immediate area you can find miles and miles of golden, sandy beaches and the hotel itself is set in an amazing forty acres of beautiful tropical gardens. All one hundred and fifty rooms are of an exceptional high quality, combining comfort and value. The view from every room is equally fantastic; they all overlook the Atlantic Ocean, as well as the beautiful landscaped gardens which surround the hotel's swimming pools. Facilities offered at the Kairaba Hotel include a gym and health studio, an observatory within the grounds, conference and banqueting facilities and a WiFi internet connection across the entire building. There is even a golf course nearby in Fajara.

The Kairaba Hotel has an amazing nine different restaurants and bars, allowing it to cater for any taste or mood when it comes to dining. This breaks down into five bars, which include the 'Ice Cream Shop', situated by the hotel's main entrance and offering not just an amazing variety of ice creams, but also a range of sandwiches, cakes and coffees. 'The Monsoon Bar' has fantastic views over the hotel's gardens and the Atlantic Ocean and, in addition to serving a wide variety of drinks, also offers food all day. 'The Havana Club' is a bar on a Cuban theme, which is popular for pre-dinner and after-dinner drinks. The Kairaba Hotel's remaining two bars are the 'Bolong Bar', which is an al-fresco poolside bar famous across the country for its live entertainment and the 'Beach House', which serves food and drink in a perfect location right on the sand. The hotel's four restaurants include 'Shikra', which is a world fusion a la carte restaurant with a distinctive exotic image. 'Bodega Casa Fernando' offers a mixture of different world cuisines in an open and relaxed atmosphere and Malimbe Restaurant can be found by the pool, offering a variety of dishes, including a buffet in the evening alongside bands and live entertainment.

However 'The Kingfisher Restaurant', has to be one of the Kairaba Hotel's best eateries. It is primarily a breakfast restaurant, as it is open purely between seven o'clock and half past ten in the morning. However, it promises to provide guests with good quality breakfast on every day of the week without fail. The restaurant is arranged in a buffet style, the obvious advantage of which is that you pay a set price and can then eat as much and as disparately as you want. Start your breakfast with a cup of freshly prepared tea or coffee and then tuck into the seemingly limitless buffet. There are both hot and cold foods on offer from all parts of the world, with everything from a full English with all the trimmings to simple cereals and yoghurts. The freshly baked, warm bread is thoroughly irresistible and the restaurant is made truly unique by its live cooking stations, at which chefs cook delicious, fluffy and thick omelettes which can be filled with anything you desire. The chefs also freshly prepare waffles and pancakes. 'The Kingfisher Restaurant' offers an abundance of local food, however; its Gambian honey is locally produced, as is the fruit which goes into its fresh fruit juices.

The indoor dining room seats a lot of people without seeming too full or overcrowded and it is completely air conditioned and non smoking for maximum comfort. For those guests who would rather sit outside in the early morning air, there is a big outdoor terrace area, where you can sit overlooking the beautiful gardens, sparkling pool and distant ocean.

One of the walls is made up entirely of windows which gives the restaurant a very light and spacious feel, which, as well as maximising the room's space, gives diners a brilliant view out across the gardens towards the ocean. The restaurant is also well lit and decorated with mellow and calming colours in order to ease you into the day with positivity and cheer. Art and flowers give the restaurant that finishing touch of class.
