The Rose And Crown Pub

The Rose and Crown pub in the popular tourist resort of Kololi in the Gambia opens from 8am in the morning until midnight every day. They also have a popular Happy Hour from 5 to 7 pm each night too. Famous for its mix of traditional African food and western dishes, the Rose and Crown Pub pretty much has something for everyone!

Starting with the Rose and Crown's All Day Breakfast Menu you can get yourself a full English breakfast to set you up for the day. Each item on the All Day Breakfast menu costs D25 and if you order more than 5 items from the all day breakfast menu before 12 noon you will receive a free pot of tea or a cup of coffee whichever you prefer. The All Day menu is based on a build your own breakfast basis so you can pick and choose your items to create your perfect breakfast.

The All Day Breakfast menu offers a choice of:

Fresh whole grapefruit, 2 eggs, 1 slice of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 slices of fried bread, 2 slices of toast, 2 slices of French toast, Corned beef fritter, Spam fritter, Black pudding (when available) White pudding (when available) Baked beans, Mushrooms (tinned) Tomatoes (tinned) and Tomatoes (fresh). If you prefer you can have a Continental Breakfast for D80 this will get you a croissant with a choice of butter and jam or cheese or salami. You also get a mug of coffee, a pot of tea a hot chocolate or a glass of juice included with the Continental Breakfast.

The Standard Menu

The Rose and Crown has an extensive menu that features West African, European and specifically English food. The ingredients are generally fresh and locally sourced and all prepared by the restaurant's very own chef. The Rose and Crown prides itself on being able to cater for all, from an intimate meal for two to large functions. There is an al-fresco dining area out to the front of the Rose and Crown and there is also an open air eating area on the roof of the building; however should you prefer to eat indoors, there is plenty of room in the indoor bar area and this area can also be cleared for dancing later on in the night. Children's portions of all the meals on the standard menu are available on request and will suite children and those who have smaller appetites or anyone who just fancies a lighter meal rather than a full meal. Dinner is served at the Rose and Crown until midnight although last orders for food are taken at 11pm.

Hot snacks and Sandwiches

The Rose and Crown standard menu is extensive with a great deal of choice to suit all times of day and every type of taste and appetite. You can order simply a plate of chips, egg and chips, chicken wraps, beef burger in a bun, club sandwich garlic bread, tomato soup, prawn cocktail, spring rolls, Thai chicken salad, omelettes, salads and small spicy meat pies to name just a few of the items on the hot snacks and sandwiches menu.

Fish Dishes

With its proximity to the sea, you can be sure of the wide range of fish and seafood items available on your trip to the Gambia and The Rose and Crown Pub is no exception. Fish dishes on the standard menu include good old English fish and chips, but for the more adventurous there is barracuda, butterfish, ladyfish, Tanzanian fish curry, shrimps, homemade fishcakes and fish Creole with rice and peas. Fish dishes are usually served with chips, mashed potatoes or rice with the vegetables of the day.

Meat Dishes

Meat dishes include all kinds of steak and beef including beef goulash and beef in Guinness, steak and kidney pie, spaghetti bolognaise, BBQ pork spare ribs, fried chicken, Madras chicken and Caribbean chicken. Meat dishes also come with a choice of potatoes or rice and the vegetables of the day.

Traditional West African Dishes

Traditional dishes from The Gambia are also available for those who like to sample the local cuisine when on holiday. There is the famous Gambian stew / curry dish Benachin, with a choice of fish or meat as the base, cassava with beans, cowfoot soup, fish or beef domeda and ochre soup to mention a couple. All of the West African dishes are served with rice, couscous or foofoo.
